Area Law Enforcement
Approximately 50 vehicles have been covered with what appears to be blood from a person in the German municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm law enforcement.
Automobiles, building surfaces and mailboxes were marked, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they reported in a release.
Police say they were alerted during the night on Wednesday evening, when a individual noticed that a car in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been smeared with a red-colored liquid.
The fluid had been drawn in the pattern of a banned symbol, they added.
Police then discovered multiple other marked vehicles and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.
Swastikas are banned in Germany under legislation outlawing the public exhibition of Nazi symbols.
Officials say preliminary tests show the liquid was probably blood from a person.
"At present there remains no lead as to where it came from; authorities are currently not cognizant of any physical harm in association with the incident," they stated.
Municipal representatives stated they were trying "to resolve the case" and have requested to the public for tips.
A high-ranking official said the attack left him without words and had to be addressed quickly.
"This event affects the core of Hanau and revives the pain of the far-right terrorist attack in 2020," he wrote on online, recalling the murder of nine victims by a shooter aiming at people of immigrant origin in five years prior.
